Many of us have heard the word ‘Detox’ from tea brands. Nutrients and elements of green tea remove the toxic substances of your body or promote physical health. Well, a digital detox is a period during which a person abstains from using electronic devices like smartphones or computers; it means an opportunity to reduce stress or focus on social interaction in the physical world. This promotes a person’s mental health.
I started this year with a digital detox: deleting all social media apps from my phone for January. Well, it felt weird for some time not to constantly check the feeds, but then the changes started reflecting in positive ways. I had more time for the things that truly matter; feeling happy and being present in the moment. It kind of brought my mental clarity back and weaned me off all the noise of notifications and endless scrolling. Now, having readopted social media, I am way more conscious of its usage and put boundaries around it to maintain that balance and focus that I found through the detox.
In this blog, I will be sharing some insights and tips on how you can also maintain digital detox properly, conserving focus on much more important things, like your studies and further improving them or being consistent in day-to-day work habits.

Set Practical Goals and Limits
This can also include realistic objectives and constraints to kick-start your digital detox. You can start by deciding on how long your detox will last—from a daily routine to just a weekend or even a holiday break. These boundaries help you come up with a plan for your detox.
Other Activities/Hobbies
Replacing screen time with a lot of such hobbies that engage one’s senses and mind actively is pretty rewarding in itself. For example, painting, playing musical instruments, or gardening—doing something that has meaning by which you move away from digital devices and add richness at the same time. Such hobbies help not only bring down digital consumption but also allow the development of new skills and the discovery of new passions one might otherwise never have come across. By entering such activities, the gain is much more than the time away from screens—the kindling of personal growth, creativity, and a larger outlook in connecting with the world around you.

Design a Tech-Free Space
To enhance your digital detox, convert your study room into a no-technology zone. Keep your mobile phone, tablets, and other digital devices away from you while studying. This will reduce the chances of distractive thoughts and thereby help you focus more on your educational tasks, enhancing concentration and productivity.
Do things offline
As you go on a detox from digital media, ensure that some time is set apart and contributes toward the development and well-being of your person. Engage in hobbies, do some physical activities, or spend quality time with loved ones. These tasks of offline activities will yield a better and healthier outcome and help refresh your mind from technology. Passing time in nature also gives a lot of relief to your mental health. Plant a small flower and make a personal commitment to nurturing it each day. Water it and tend to it; in time, it will grow. Then you will realize the change when it has finally bloomed. This much deeper beauty can be realized through patiently tending to its needs: accept and appreciate nature, focusing on the journey itself as much as the results.

While decreasing screen time is the very essence of a digital detox, some productivity apps can still help keep your academic tasks in order. Such as using a calendar app to schedule tasks, and using a to-do list to organize any work. Using any type of workout app to develop and track health progress. There are also many apps and software related to sleep scheduling or monitoring which can be very useful to people. In the age of digitalization, we must utilize each and every opportunity to ensure our well-being.
Develop good sleep habits
Technology often interferes with our ability to sleep, hence the fatigue and subsequent lack of energy. Forming a standard sleep pattern, including reducing the amount of time one spends on devices before bed, is the way forward to more rest and health. Setting up a relaxing pre-sleep routine, like reading or relaxation techniques, may greatly help bring up a notch of sleep quality and have a restful night. The importance of sleep is very crucial for a student to achieve better results overall.

It is tough in self-control and dedication—setting up rules on how one should use technology and abiding by them strictly. Stay away from temptations by limiting the time you spend on social media or other unnecessary browsing.
